Many of my wellness clients come to me complaining of sweets cravings. The sweets beast can be a tough one to slay, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve to deal with it.
My best advice is to turn to protein and fiber in times of craving. Sure, you could attempt to satisfy your sweet tooth with something natural like berries or a green apple. But I often find that just lights a fire, and you end up wanting more sweets 10 minutes later. This can create a vicious cycle that builds in intensity so that before you know it you've completely lost control and gone from strawberries to streudel.
A snack that is protein and fiber-heavy will knock that sweets beast on it's booty and help you regain control.
Obviously there are lots of options here. Beanitos chips are a quick grab-n-go that satisfies the protein & fiber requirement, or you could try some veggies dipped in hummus or avocado mash. A handful of walnuts and/or almonds is another great choice.
My fave snack for combatting sweets cravings is a slice of my Holy Loaves bread slathered with coconut butter or raw almond butter and sprinkled with nuts and seeds. NOW we're talkin'. This snack is a serious craving crusher and it's chock-a-block full of nutrient density.
You can find the recipe for the Holy Loaves here. It keep well in the freezer for 3 months and in the fridge for a week, so you can always have some on hand to banish the beasties.
